holy other.

Colourfornia from Nick Thompson on Vimeo.

while i normally steer clear of this guy's work, i thought it was almost too perfect that scottish born calvin harris's 2007 track 'colours' was the anthem for the 2012 aussie festival, summadayze.

apparently this promo video was shot in a melbourne warehouse using incredibly gorgeous non-models celebrating holi, the hindu festival of colours. if these are non-models down under, i should stick my head in the sand now!

where the west begins.

Skeleton Coast - Young

being fort worth born & bred, i will always have a special place for it in my heart. while a lot of people want to bag on it being a lame city, it has actually become very cool over the past few years.

case in point, take this young, upcoming ftw band Skeleton Coast who sound like a ethereally vocalized my bloody valentine & panda bear took a day at the beach.

started up in 2009 & without even so much as a debut album, these guys constantly seem to play around town bringing a bit of distorted psychedelia to the place. and from the video above, apparently house parties or songs written about clueless hipsters are not off limits either.

china is here mr. burton.

i love when great asian bands come around. especially when ones like The Offset Spectacles, who moved from hong kong to a self secluded exile in a suburb of beijing, come around. a heavy influence from the velvet underground is apparent in their debut album, but what makes it stand out is it's sung entirely in cantonese, doesn't contain a hint of drums & forgoes over produced effects while letting the amps doing most of the talking.

(track 5 'the loop swing' is on repeat right now!)

the diamond sea.

Vinyl Williams - Stellarscope

i really wouldn't know where to begin describing california bred Vinyl Williams (aka lionel williams) album, lemniscate. it goes everywhere from being sexy psychedelic krautrock, to the right amount of noise blended bedroom pop all the way to a dark ambient soundscape.

so, forget all that shit i just used to describe it & give it a listen because it's kind of amazing.

czesc! czesc! czesc!

i think it was only fitting that since i was talking polish politics over beers last night that i listen to Kaseciarz today, hailing all the way from kraków, poland. while their new album is strictly instrumental its sounds range from groovy surf jams, to distorted garage to a bit of sample heavy guitar drone. i highly recommend tracks 3-5 here!

basically, the entire album is really fucking good & with the language barrier - who needs vocals?

most triumphant.

Assassins 88 - Wildwood Girl

beach people was the perfect title for the most recent ep from canberra australia duo, Assassins 88. (and you can dl it for free - what beach bums wouldn't love that?!) since it's well on it's way to summer down under, this is the perfect blend of lo-fi surf rock to accompany it.

i can't be apart from your love.

Bronson - Purpose

i'm pretty sure that if i heard this track performed live by washington bedroom crooner, Bronson, my heart would instantly break into pieces. he just released his new album last week which you can buy/stream on his bandcamp if you're in the mood for something a bit more serene.

pretty baby.

Alpine - Hands

if watching sexy, american apparel type models do strangely odd things like devour a roast chicken in the shower or have a kissing hand orgy sounds like your cup of tea, then you might want to check this video from melbourne's Alpine.
