this must be what heaven looks like.

The Paper Boat - Smokers Can't Tell With Smell

The Paper Boat - We'll Write In Cursive With Satellites

No-Way Sweden - Sparks & Fireworks

No-Way Sweden - Streets of Catalonia

i had the pleasure of hosting a lovely aussie at my apartment a few months back who upon departing left behind some cd's of his for my listening enjoyment. one was of his solo work under the paper boat & one of of his band no-way sweden, both of which were released on the brilliant concept project 500 Dollar Limit.

i seriously wish i could create a "nofussmuss" music genre cause this is what i would tuck this under. nothing over the top or out of control, just blissful songs that make you feel....well.... blissful.

guys like this are what musical soulmates are made out of.

most likely you go your way (and i'll go mine)

1. Women - Heat Distraction
2. Lower Dens - Hospice Gates
3. No Age - Inflorescence
4. Crocodiles - Hearts Of Love

6. Hussies - Miss Anthropy
7. Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti - Crybaby
8. Dent May - Eastover Wives
9. Soft Powers - I. I Began To Cringe At Eight Ten

12. Deerhunter - Desire Lines
13. Frankie Rose & The Outs - Little Brown Haired Girls
14. The Strange Boys - Dare I Say
15. Girls - Hellhole Ratrace

this mix really made me smile the whole time i was making it. mainly because some of the bands, not all of them mind you, are overdosed with pop flavoring therefore making them guilty pleasures that i wonder why i even bother in the first place. but what can i say? i can't help but tease myself & i keep going back for more. kind of funny since i feel the same exact way about the person who inspired this mix in the first place. so enjoy!

Teebs - Why Like This?

Teebs - Felt Tip

beautiful? sexy? easy as 123?

why yes it is. CA resident & Flying Lotus protégé, Teebs, released a silky smooth debut album, ardour, this past October on the brainfeeder label which is home to the likes of daedelus, gaslamp killer & samiyam. this is another artist that just missed the mark on my winter mix but no doubt it's pretty sexy stuff so check it.

shake it don't break it.

The Stepkids - Legend In My Own Mind

being cut from my recent winter mix, i just had to post up my current obsession, connecticut's own the stepkids. recently signed to stones throw with a debut album out in april 2011, they're an amazing musical blend of psychedelic soul. basically if otis redding decided to go on a peyote binge out in arizona....this is probably what it would sound like.

london calling.

Fiction - Zebra Crossing

with the year coming to end this track (and video), from london quartet fiction, are still one of my favorites to be released this year. from their 7" debut 'curiousity' they sound like a heavy heap of talking heads/early clash mixed with shitdisco.

now here's to hoping they blow up in 2011 with an actual debut album......

Apache Beat - Another Day

this track from the debut album of new york's apache beat gives you that warm feeling inside your chest like you just downed a bunch of makers mark. and i mean a lotttttttttttt of makers mark so take it easy here cowboys.

fun fun funnnnnnnnnnnn fest.

James Pants - Darlin'

i've have my eye on this guy ever since he hit the scene in 2008 & he just gets cooler as the years go on. austin, texas native james pants keeps on keeping it real with this ultra fun tune from his soon to be released third album, love kraft, via stones throw.

(Hmmmmmm...wonder if he's a super furry animals fan?)

bay city rollers.

Young Prisms - Sugar

when giovanni betteo, bassist/vocalist of san francisco quintet young prisms, was interviewed earlier in the year by a local blog they begged to ask the question:

What is the ideal setting for someone to hear your music?
Betteo: On the beach, late at night, setting off fireworks. You know, good times.

Soak up this new track (which is taken from their debut album 'Friends For Now' out Jan. 2011) & you'll see how much that rings true.

baby went to amsterdam.

Vondelpark - Jetlag

since i'll be in Amsterdam next week i found it only fitting that i post up a little bit of SE London resident, Vondelpark. normally i would provide a link to forward you on to more of his ambient drenched beats, but without a myspace & very little info on him what you get is what you get here. what i do know is his debut album 'Sauna' will be out this month.

maybe it would be more fitting if i put this on my ipod & actually listen to Vondelpark while i'm in Vondelpark.

new york, newwwwwwwwwwwwww york.

Crystal Stilts - Shake The Shackles

Magnetic Moon by Crystal Stilts

speaking of crystal stilts, even though they won't release their second album until sometime in 2011 they will release a new 7" via slumberland records late next month - side a & side b posted above for your listening pleasure.

sounds like someone has been overdosing on their joy division. this is monotone greatness at it's best.

Wednesday, September 15, 2010

i'll be on my own.

Frankie Rose & the Outs - Little Brown Haired Girls

you have to be pretty goddamn golden if you're the ex-drummer for vivian girls, dum dum girls AND crystal stilts. so frankie rose took her golden self front & center to create frankie rose & the outs who's debut album is out next tuesday.

this is the kind of song you listen to really loudddddddddd in a convertible with your hair flowing in the wind.

Wednesday, September 8, 2010

stick with me & we'll claw our way to the top.

Candy Claws - Sunbeam Show

Candy Claws - Catamaran

with labor day come & gone i feel my 2010 summer mix is forever bound in my sleeping beauty of a computer. (being that i still don't have it hooked up) so, looks like you're going to get some of the music from it that i've been holding since may, yes may, in blog form.

second track in got you feeling all warm & fuzzy with colorado's own candy claws. simply starting off as a duo they have now grown into a handful of 8 hippie banshees. break out the rain sticks & enjoy.

gonjakiller.

The Gaslamp Killer (feat. Gonjasufi) - "When I'm In Awe"

with gonjasufi releasing one of my favorite albums this year (which also happend to be his debut to the world) & gaslamp killer just being an overall badass dj/producer it's without a doubt that this track off gaslamp's new ep would be amazing.

it's the perfect mix of gonja's haunting vocals & gaslamp's eerily sampled beats. almost like it's a little something extra just in time for an early halloween.
