they're hereeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Wounded Lion - Going Into The Unknown

in a span of less than 10 minutes downtown today, i saw a man in a large furry panda suit, a victorian lad on a two wheeled velocipede & a blind pirate with one leg who kept going around in circles. it was really more wtf than it sounds - kind of like this video from los angeles band Wounded Lion. it makes a disclaimer for the occult references but no references are shown that i can see. however, i could have just been thoroughly brainwashed unbeknownst to me.

happy halloween ya'll.

everything will be alright.

i'm under the impression that melbourne is sending it's come to me vibes because i've really been digging Twerps new debut album, which you can stream in full above. just listen to that aussie croon on 'who are you' about his unappreciative lover & you'll understand why sometimes it's just best to move on.

i say times like that are the best to go somewhere new.

i always wanted more.

Grand Trine - Here Comes The Night

i think my brain has been on a constant psychedelic trip as of late. might be why i enjoy this 2 1/2 minutes of mind altering sounds & images from montreal's Grand Trine.

far gone & out.

Permanent Collection - Shoot The Shit

i'm highly convinced that san francisco's Permanent Collection (and former young prisms member) must be on handfuls of somas & klonopin. from his intoxicating muffled vocals, shoegaze ridden guitar sounds, the totally obscure not sure what it's supposed to mean video, to the not so matching song title. but somehow, he seems to make it all work.

stephen, this one if for you. and those nights that feel like absolute heaven....

sun sets. sun rises.

so i have this really cool, multi-instrumentalist aussie friend (briefly mentioned earlier this year) who continues to amaze me with his plethora of musical projects. most recently he turned me on to his bass heavy, yet flushed with a kaleidoscopic haze band, grieve pde.

this is what you would listen to driving under a texas desert night sky. might be even more amazing to hear in the australian desert instead. makes me think i should check out the latter sooner than later just to compare. however, hearing it over a pint at a melbourne bar would more than suffice as well.

plus that last track did just about everything, in every way it could to me.....

so now that i'm finally getting around to posting again, here's a mix that i made back in august for my best friends birthday. while we have very different tastes in music it seems when it comes to lady tunes, we arrive on the same page. this mix is splashed with a bit of northern soul, doo-wop & just a dash of 70's dance floor fillers.

even though this was made for a ladies pleasure, men not be afraid of this.

Chelsea Wolfe - Mer

if you melted portishead & marissa nadler vinyl records into one, then mixed it with black magic witches ashes you'd get chelsea wolfe's haunting video for mer. prepare for the spell casting.

honey bunny.

Crock - Eat Your Hat Out

now this is more like it.

while i was in scotland, sometimes i heard so much donovan i thought my ears were going to bleed yellow. so to keep myself sane, from time to time i would blare a little Crock whenever i was alone.

born from sam coomes (quasi) & spencer seim (hella), their recently released debut LP, Grok, can border on a spaced out trip to the galactic edges of the psychedelic outerworld. the track above however, is an all over the place mess. but a really fucking good all over the place mess.

make sure not to ingest any lsd before you watch this video. or bunnies.

the scotland scenario.

Of Scottish Blood and Symphonies by bubblegumrecords

Kinds of Loneliness by bubblegumrecords

i just realized it's been over 2 months since i've posted. however, it's within good reason as i was busy running around scotland for the past month. i returned to the states last week & came to the conclusion that edinburgh is where you go for breath taking scenery, drink warm beer, eat deep fried haggis till you burst, walk up an insane amount of hills, pretend you understand people from glasgow, have your heart broken into a million pieces & see a few bands along the way. maybe the music goes along with the heartbreak? all summed up - it was one of the most amazing trips i've ever had.

speaking of bands, one in particular, edinburgh school for the deaf, caught my ear while i was on the prowl. i first found out about them when i heard them record additional vocals for some tracks & luckily i had the pleasure of seeing them live, along with crawling up the walls & putting the drums in the crowd, twice before i left. if you're in the mood for something a little bit scuzzy, soft-soft-loud & with just a tinge of sweet distorted vocals, then this is for you. i have a feeling that given a few more amps, the wall of sound coming at you would be incredible.

i'm back folks, at least for the time being anyway......
